Masdar and Tadweer Group have announced plans to develop Abu Dhabi’s first commercial-scale waste-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant. The facility will process 500,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year, converting it into low-carbon jet fuel. Using a hybrid pathway that combines waste gasification with green hydrogen produced from renewable energy, the plant will create SAF with substantially lower lifecycle emissions.
The initiative supports the UAE’s National Hydrogen Strategy and its long-term net-zero goals, while helping Tadweer reach its target of diverting 80% of waste from landfills by 2030. By transforming waste into clean fuel, the project highlights Abu Dhabi’s strong commitment to circular economy innovation and sustainable aviation.
