The United Kingdom’s greenhouse gas emissions declined by 2% in 2025, reaching 367 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, according to data highlighted by ESG News. This represents a continued downward trend, with total emissions now significantly lower than historic levels. The reduction reflects ongoing structural changes in the energy system and industrial activity across the country.

A major factor behind the decline was a notable drop in emissions from the industrial sector, driven by reduced output in energy-intensive industries. However, progress was uneven, as emissions from transport increased slightly due to higher fuel consumption. The figures underline that while the UK is advancing toward its climate goals, certain sectors still pose challenges to sustained emissions cuts.
