Carbon Credits Gain Importance as India Inc Accelerates Net-Zero Journey
August 3, 2026|ESG Research Foundation

As Indian companies push to achieve their net-zero commitments, carbon credits are emerging as a key tool to offset emissions that cannot be eliminated immediately. Businesses are increasingly exploring voluntary carbon markets alongside investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency to meet their sustainability goals.
Industry experts, however, stress that carbon credits should complement—not replace—direct emission reduction efforts. Companies are being encouraged to adopt transparent climate strategies, improve operational efficiency, and ensure the credibility of carbon credit purchases as investor and regulatory scrutiny over environmental commitments continues to grow.
