ClimeCo and Marsoft have announced the first issuance of carbon credits under the Marsoft GreenScreen program, certified through the Gold Standard framework. The initiative converts verified emissions reductions from vessel retrofits into carbon credits, creating a new financing route for shipping decarbonisation.
The program uses a methodology developed with the MIT Sea Grant Design Laboratory to measure fuel and emissions savings from energy-efficiency upgrades. Revenue from selling the credits can help shipowners recover retrofit costs and accelerate investments in technologies that reduce shipping-sector emissions.
