Google has opened applications for its 2026 Carbon Removal and Superpollutant Elimination R&D Awards, offering research funding of up to $500,000 per project. The initiative aims to support breakthroughs that can improve the effectiveness, measurement, and scalability of climate mitigation technologies.
The programme covers 12 priority research areas, including ocean alkalinity enhancement, biochar, carbon capture, and mangrove restoration, alongside an open call for other promising solutions. Google is inviting academic researchers, nonprofits, and innovators to submit proposals, with applications open until September 25, 2026.
