Nepal's glacier-triggered floods on 26 August caused widespread devastation, killing 1,367 people and leaving 5,132 missing. The disaster displaced approximately 84,270 people and destroyed critical infrastructure across northern regions, highlighting the growing risks posed by climate-related extreme events in vulnerable mountain ecosystems.
In response, Nepal has approached the UN Loss and Damage Fund, established in 2022 to support climate-vulnerable developing countries facing irreversible impacts. A UN flash appeal has sought $49.6 million to assist around 84,000 affected people through December, although only $22 million had been received by mid-September, underscoring the urgent need for greater international support.
