Frontier signs $31M deal with Planetary for ocean carbon removal
Frontier, a carbon removal buyers group backed by Google, Stripe, and Shopify, has signed a
$31 million agreement with Canadian company Planetary.
The partnership will advance ocean alkalinity enhancement, a process that boosts the
ocean’s natural ability to absorb CO₂ and helps reduce acidification.
Planetary’s method involves adding an antacid-like material to seawater, which
locks away CO₂ for thousands of years while improving marine health. Deliveries are scheduled
to begin in 2026, with the potential to scale to billions of tons
of CO₂ removal in the future.
