Salesforce Backs India’s Rice Farming Revolution with 500,000 Carbon Credit Deal

Salesforce has signed a five-year agreement with India-based agricultural technology startup Mitti Labs to purchase 500,000 carbon credits generated through projects designed to reduce methane emissions from rice cultivation. The initiative will support tens of thousands of smallholder farmers in India in adopting climate-smart farming practices, including Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), which can reduce methane emissions by up to 50% and water consumption by 40% without affecting crop yields.

The partnership is also expected to save approximately 700 billion litres of water, easing pressure on groundwater resources and promoting sustainable agriculture. Mitti Labs uses artificial intelligence, satellite imagery and field data to monitor and verify emissions reductions. The agreement reinforces Salesforce’s commitment to tackling superpollutants and advancing high-impact climate solutions while helping farmers improve water efficiency and adopt more sustainable agricultural practices.
