Verra has approved the first carbon credits verified entirely through a digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (DMRV) process under a pilot aimed at enabling high-frequency issuances. The initial credits were issued for the Foumbouni-Mitsamiouli solar farm project on Grande Comore, which replaces unreliable fossil fuel power with renewable energy, and were digitally verified by SustainCERT, eliminating traditional paper-based workflows and enhancing traceability and reporting speed.
Under the pilot framework, projects can request 80% of approved credits immediately, with the remaining 20% withheld as a safeguard while the process is evaluated, balancing issuance speed with quality controls. The move is part of Verra’s broader digitization efforts to streamline carbon credit issuance, improve data integrity, and support more efficient participation in voluntary carbon markets.
