Google has partnered with I Squared Capital and LCI to develop a 400-MW natural gas power plant with carbon capture technology in Illinois. The facility will capture around 90% of its CO₂ emissions and store them underground. Google plans to purchase power from the plant to offset emissions from its expanding data center operations. This marks the first-ever corporate deal for a carbon capture and storage (CCS)-enabled power plant and aligns with Google’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
